The short answer: from central Seoul, take a direct KTX from Seoul Station (서울역) to Busan Station (부산역). From Incheon Airport, first use AREX to Seoul Station or the KORAIL 6770 airport bus to Gwangmyeong Station, then board the KTX printed on your separate rail ticket. There is no current direct KTX from Incheon Airport.

The AREX, KORAIL 6770, KTX and Busan public-transport links below were checked against their operators. Google Maps successfully resolved every listed origin and destination. It warned that some intercity and Haeundae schedule data may not be current, so use the map to understand the route—not to replace the live KORAIL or Busan timetable.
Why the step image is an original diagram: KORAIL material is marked Korea Open Government License Type 4, which is not suitable for copying or annotating on an advertising-supported guide. Google Maps and airport interfaces also change. Open the live operator screens through the buttons; the diagram shows the decision sequence without pretending to be an official interface.

Route A: Seoul Station to Busan by direct KTX
This is the default recommendation. Search Seoul → Busan on the official KORAIL English reservation page. Many direct services complete the station-to-station trip in under three hours, but the exact duration, stops, fare and seat availability depend on the train shown for your date.
This Google Maps route opens with the origin, destination and transit mode filled in. Google may show a different live option by departure time, and it may warn about stale timetable data. Confirm the train on KORAIL before travel.
- Book the exact result on KORAIL. Do not assume that a search-engine ticket seller has the same refund support.
- Check that the departure says Seoul 서울, not Yongsan, Gwangmyeong or Suseo.
- Check that the arrival says Busan 부산, not Gupo or Bujeon.
- Arrive 20–30 minutes early if Seoul Station is unfamiliar. KTX has no airport-style security line, but the concourse and platform still take time to find.
- Open the issued ticket—not merely a payment authorization—and follow the platform board for the live train.

Route B: Incheon Airport → Seoul Station → Busan
After immigration and baggage collection, follow signs for Airport Railroad / 공항철도. The AREX Express has assigned seats and stops only at Terminal 2, Terminal 1 and Seoul Station. The all-stop train uses ordinary transit-style seating and calls at intermediate stations. Both reach Seoul Station; they are different products with different tickets.
The July 2026 AREX timetable showed Express trips of about 43 minutes from T1 and 51 minutes from T2 to Seoul Station. Those are scheduled train times, not flight-to-KTX connection times. Immigration, baggage delivery, walking to the rail station, buying the AREX ticket and moving from the deep AREX platform to the KTX concourse all sit outside that number.
Conservative connection rule: for a first visit with checked luggage, do not plan a KTX earlier than roughly 3½ hours after a scheduled T1 landing or 4 hours after a scheduled T2 landing. This is an editorial planning floor, not a guarantee. Add 30–60 minutes for peak immigration, mobility needs, children or a holiday.
Once at Seoul Station, do not follow only the next crowd. AREX arrives far below the main concourse. Follow KTX / 기차 signs, then recheck the station, time and train number on the ticket. A 45-minute AREX-to-KTX allowance is a practical editorial minimum for a newcomer after the airport process is complete; more is better when the ticket is expensive or difficult to change.
Route C: Incheon Airport → Gwangmyeong → Busan
KORAIL’s 6770 KTX Airport Limousine is a reserved airport bus, not a train. It links Incheon Airport with Gwangmyeong Station, 광명역, a major southbound KTX stop. It can save the detour into central Seoul when the bus and KTX schedules align.
- T2 boarding: Basement 1, Bay 45.
- T1 boarding: Floor 1, Bay 8B.
- Buying the Gwangmyeong-bound leg from the airport: KORAIL’s current page lists airport counters, ticket machines and Tmoney GO.
- Current operator reference: KORAIL showed an adult fare of ₩16,000 and scheduled trips of about 75 minutes from T2 or 50 minutes from T1 when reviewed.
- Luggage rule shown by KORAIL: two pieces per ticket, each no more than 30 kg and 160 cm in combined dimensions.
Google Maps may choose a route other than 6770 and displayed a schedule-freshness warning during review. Use the buttons for geographic orientation, then use the KORAIL 6770 page for the same-day stop, seat and time.
Leave at least 60 minutes at Gwangmyeong after the bus’s scheduled arrival. The bus runs in road traffic, and the KTX ticket is a separate, unprotected booking. A late 6770 does not automatically move your rail reservation.
Gwangmyeong Station is 광명역. Do not select Gwangmyeongsageori Station, 광명사거리역, which is a different metro station. Review the complete KTX station-name warning guide before paying.
Arriving at Busan Station: choose the right local direction
Busan KTX Station and Busan Metro Station on Line 1 are adjacent but have separate gates and tickets. Follow the metro signs and use a compatible transit card or buy a local ticket.
- Nampo, Jagalchi and BIFF Square: take Line 1 southbound toward Dadaepo Beach.
- Seomyeon: take Line 1 northbound. It is the main transfer for Line 2.
- Haeundae: take Line 1 to Seomyeon, transfer to Line 2, then continue to Haeundae Station; some live routes use a bus instead.
- Gwangalli: transfer at Seomyeon to Line 2 and use the station that best matches the exact hotel address.
Your Seoul Climate Card is not the default Busan fare product. A normal interoperable T-money card is broadly useful, but the purchase and top-up method still matters. Check the foreign-card and transport-card comparison before assuming one Seoul pass covers another city.
