The short answer: take KTX from Seoul Station (서울역) to Gyeongju Station (경주역), then use a city bus or taxi to Hwangnidan-gil and the historic center. From Incheon Airport, connect first by AREX to Seoul Station or by KORAIL 6770 bus to Gwangmyeong Station. The active KTX station is outside downtown and was called Singyeongju Station until 2023.

KORAIL, AREX and Gyeongju city sources confirm the route and station-name change. Gyeongju revised station-area bus service on July 15, 2026, so this guide tells you to verify the destination stop in the city’s live transport system instead of relying on one frozen bus-number screenshot.

This advertising-supported guide uses an original route diagram and links to the live booking screen. A static screenshot would also become misleading when a platform, departure or bus route changes.

The station-name trap to solve before booking
The current high-speed station is Gyeongju Station, 경주역, at 80 Gyeongjuyeok-ro, Geoncheon-eup. It was named Singyeongju Station, 신경주역 until December 2023. An old hotel page may still use “Singyeongju”; if its pin matches the modern KTX station outside the center, it is referring to the same place.
The former downtown Gyeongju passenger station is different. Passenger service there ended in 2021 after the rail relocation. Do not navigate to the old station site near Seongdong Market to catch KTX.
Copy this into your trip note: 경주역 KTX, 80 Gyeongjuyeok-ro. Then save a second line for your downtown destination, such as 황리단길 or 대릉원. They are not within a short walk of the platform.

Route A: Seoul Station → Gyeongju Station → historic center
Search Seoul → Gyeongju on the official KORAIL English site. Gyeongju city describes the KTX journey as roughly two hours and ten minutes, but each train has its own stops and duration. The live KORAIL result is final.
- Choose Seoul 서울 as the departure and Gyeongju 경주 as the arrival.
- Confirm that the result is KTX or the train type you intend to buy; not every service has the same stops.
- Complete overseas-card authentication and open the issued ticket in MY TICKET or KORAIL Talk.
- Arrive at Seoul Station 20–30 minutes early if you do not know the concourse.
- At Gyeongju Station, do not begin walking toward downtown. Choose the current bus or taxi based on the exact hotel or attraction.

Route B: Incheon Airport → Seoul Station → Gyeongju
After entering Korea and collecting your baggage, follow signs to Airport Railroad. AREX Express is the simplest first-time rail connection because it runs from T2 and T1 to Seoul Station with assigned seats. The all-stop train also reaches Seoul Station but makes intermediate stops and uses a different fare and seating pattern.
AREX arrives on deep underground platforms. Reaching the main KTX concourse is a real transfer, not a step across one platform. For a newcomer, allow at least 45 minutes after the scheduled AREX arrival before the KTX departure; more is safer with elevators, children or large bags.
From the scheduled international landing time, a conservative editorial floor is about 3½ hours to a T1 KTX or 4 hours to a T2 KTX. This is not an operator guarantee. Immigration, baggage delivery and flight delay can exceed any blog estimate, so consider one night in Seoul if the only available train is tight, costly to miss or the last practical departure.
Route C: Incheon Airport → Gwangmyeong → Gyeongju
The KORAIL 6770 airport limousine is a bus from T2 and T1 to Gwangmyeong Station, 광명역. It can work well for southbound travel because Gwangmyeong is already outside central Seoul. It is still a road journey linked to a separate KTX ticket.
- T2: Basement 1, Bay 45.
- T1: Floor 1, Bay 8B.
- At review time: KORAIL listed a ₩16,000 adult fare and approximately 75 minutes from T2 or 50 minutes from T1.
- Connection recommendation: keep at least 60 minutes between the scheduled bus arrival and KTX departure, then add more for a peak road period.
These Google links show the area and may not select bus 6770; Maps warned that some schedule data may be stale. Use the KORAIL 6770 page to verify the seat, bay and departure on travel day.
Final leg: Gyeongju Station to Hwangnidan-gil
For a first central stay, use Hwangnidan-gil, 황리단길, Daereungwon, 대릉원, or the exact hotel as your map destination. Gyeongju’s official guide has listed buses from the KTX station toward Seorabeol Sageori · Hwangnidan-gil, 서라벌사거리·황리단길, followed by a short walk. Because the station-area network changed on July 15, 2026, confirm the current bus in Gyeongju ITS rather than memorizing a number months in advance.
The verified Google route resolved both endpoints, but its suggested time changes with the bus. On travel day, open Gyeongju LIVE BUS directly and copy 경주역 for the station and 서라벌사거리·황리단길 for the central stop into the available stop or route search. The interface may appear mainly in Korean, so also check the station departure board or ask the station tourist-information desk for the next bus to that stop. If the result remains unclear, follow the Korean-address map steps or take a taxi and show the driver the Korean hotel name and address.
When the express bus is better than KTX
The express or intercity bus can be useful because Gyeongju’s bus terminals are close to the historic center. Gyeongju’s tourism guide describes Hwangnidan-gil as about a 5–10 minute walk from the Express and Intercity Bus Terminals. That can offset part of the slower highway journey.
Compare the official express-bus booking system with KORAIL when:
- the useful KTX trains are sold out;
- your Seoul accommodation is closer to the bus terminal than Seoul Station;
- your Gyeongju hotel is beside the bus terminals;
- you prefer one intercity vehicle and accept road-delay risk.
Do not mix up Gyeongju Express Bus Terminal and Gyeongju Intercity Bus Terminal. They are close to each other but serve different ticket systems and routes. Read the terminal printed on the reservation.
Coming from Busan
Busan and Gyeongju make a strong two-city sequence. KTX from Busan Station to Gyeongju Station can take around 30 minutes on a matching train, but the Gyeongju station-to-center transfer still applies. A bus from Busan’s Nopo terminal can arrive near central Gyeongju instead; compare the complete door-to-door route.

A practical first-visit arrival plan
- Save 경주역, your hotel name in Korean and the nearest bus stop before boarding KTX.
- At Gyeongju Station, open the live bus route; do not follow an old numbered screenshot blindly.
- Check into a central hotel before carrying luggage through the tomb and café district.
- Group the walkable center—Hwangnidan-gil, Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae—into one route.
- Give Bulguksa, Bomun or Yangdong Village a separate transport block; they are not simply the next street.
When English search finds the former station or an ambiguous attraction, use the Korean-address search workflow. A normal T-money card can help on local transport, but confirm the payment method and keep some backup value using the transport-card guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Gyeongju Station the same as Singyeongju Station?
Yes. The active KTX station was renamed from Singyeongju to Gyeongju in December 2023. The former downtown Gyeongju passenger station is a different, closed rail site.
Does KTX arrive near Hwangnidan-gil?
No. The KTX station is outside the historic center. Take a current city bus or taxi to Hwangnidan-gil, Daereungwon or your hotel.
Can I go directly from Incheon Airport to Gyeongju?
